Esther Fogle of Easley took this shot on her November 2008 hike to Lower Whitewater Falls. Bad Creek can be seen in the far distance.
She writes: "Every year when the leaves in Upstate South Carolina reach their peak, I say to my husband, 'Let’s go see the leaves.' As always, he groans. Even though we may go to the same places, we always come home knowing we have seen something different. Once again, fall has put on its best fireworks show. Waves of vibrant yellows, oranges, reds, browns, and all others in between have exploded against the backdrop of the rolling foothills and the ‘ol Blue Ridge Mountains of South Carolina. As the leaves fall from the trees, the 'fireworks' slowly die out. But for a short time, we are mesmerized. Somehow, those same 'ol places can be so different, yet be so dazzling with harmonious beauty. And once again, same time next year, I will say to my husband, 'Let’s go see the leaves.'"
